Only a few days away from the TDPC Race and Super Century Tour.

Just a reminder of the Packet Pickup locations and times:

All times are from 5pm to 7pm. All packets will be at each location so you can pick yours up at any of the below spots.

July 27 SBR Sports Orem
July 28 Skyline Cycles Ogden
July 29 Spin Cycle Salt Lake
July 30 Pearl Izumi Park City

Start Times:

The Race starts at 6:00am with different groups starting every 5 minutes.

The Super Century Tour riders should start between 6:00am to 6:30am.

Why the early start????

Once you reach Wyoming a very nasty cross wind starts blowing. The wind usually starts at about 10:30am to 11:00am. Starting early avoids the wind and possible heat or late afternoon rain showers.

Everyone will park at the Summit County Fairgrounds.

Please follow the link to see the location of the parking and starting area. We are starting at the City Park area on the map. Parking is all around the Rodeo Arena and the Baseball fields.

We still need a few wheel cars. Anyone who offers a car and a driver will get a great discount on the registration.

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask. We would rather take a 100 calls than have anyone confused about anything regarding the event. Our phone numbers are 801-205-6297 or 801-739-3161. You can email questions to rhett@mountainraceworks.com or info@tourdeparkcity.com

The Tour was a huge success this past Saturday! Many riders said it was our best event yet. Everyone loved the course, food, Camelbak bottle, and the temperatures on Saturday.

Now we move onto the Race and Super Century Tour. We only have two weeks until it happens. The new course is going to be awsome! Slightly shorter but much better course than past years. Check it out at www.tourdeparkcity.com.

At the end of the event we will have our sponsor raffle with a lot of great products including a sweet beach cruiser from Felt Bicycles (www.feltbicycles.com)

Stay tuned for packet pickup info etc....

Thursday, July 15, 2010

Packet pickup is at Spin Cycle in Holladay from 5pm to 7pm tonight. Online registration for the July 17 Tour options is open until midnight tonight so register soon. You may register for the tours at Spin Cycle from 5pm to 7pm.

Weather for Saturday is forecasted to be sunny and temperatures in the high 80's. The morning temperature in Park City has been anywhere from 42 - 52 degrees so plan to dress warmer until the sun is up. You may drop clothes at the first aid station at the 27 mile point.

We have 3 aid stations and 2 extra water stops. This means you won't have to ride more than 15 miles without an option to get more water. Aid stations will be stocked with great stuff to eat and drink. Sag support will also have extra water and supplies if you need it.

The two main sponsors for the Tour is Felt Bikes www.feltbicycles.com and Coca-Cola/Powerade. http://www.us.powerade.com/

Start time for the tour options is 7am (please don't start earlier). You will receive a parking map, and a course map at packet pickup.

At the finish we will have lunch, drinks, fruit, and music in the grassy Amphitheater area at Newpark Town Center by Best Buy.

Maxxis is the official tire sponsor of the Tour de Park City. The Race and Super Century course travels over 5.75 miles of hardpack dirt. No we are not talking about a nasty gravel road. Each year Summit County applies a coating of magnesium chloride to the dirt section eliminating dust and 85% of the loose rocks.

This is still dirt though and riders in the past have flatted because they have ultra light race tires on their bikes.

We talked with the folks at Maxxis and they reccomend two tire options.

The first is the Columbiere.

The Columbiere is designed for the true road racer. The Columbiere’s slick design, with subtle siping, allows racers to cover ground in any conditions with plenty of confidence.

Grooved slick design - front or rear
2-ply nylon breaker for increased puncture resistance
Pro road competition tire

The second tire is geared more for training but Rhett who is my partner in the Tour de Park City has put 6,000 miles on a set without a single flat!

The Re-Fuse is our second choice.

Maxxis' most popular training tire- providing excellent traction, durability and plenty of road miles in any condition. The Kevlar® belt and silkworm cap ply combine to provide a tire that Re-Fuses to puncture.

Diamond knurled slick design
Kevlar belt and silkworm cap for maximum puncture resistance
Training tire.
Either tire option will give you a solid tire that won't let you down when you hit the dirt section on the Tour de Park City course.
Here are the links to both tires:
Check out all the tires at www.maxxis.com
For those riding in the July 17 Tour the route is posted on Garmin Connect.

Here is the link:

Remember the Tour starts and finishes at Newpark Town Center in Kimball Junction just off of I-80 near Park City.

The tour is a great out and back route on some of Utah's least traveled roads. This is great for riders because you don't have to deal with as many cars. The tour has only three moderate hills to climb the rest of the course is pretty flat.

The route passes by three lakes and joins the historic Mormon Trail to East Canyon.

Remember we are only accepting 600 riders this year so register soon. Register at www.tourdeparkcity.com

The Freebie item this year for everyone who rides either part of the Tour de park City is a custom printed Camelbak Podium Bottle. I love this bottles because you just pull it out and squirt. No lids to mess with.

If you haven't tried them I highly recommend it.Check out the full podium bottle line at

Race and Super Century Course on Garmin Connect

The Tour de Park City race and super century course is now posted on Garmin Connect. Garmin's site allows you to download the course directly to your Edge 305, 605, or 705 cycling gps units.

The link to the Tour de Park City Course is http://connect.garmin.com/activity/35992938

If you don't have an Edge you need one. These things give you all the cycling data you could ever dream of. My Edge 705 gives speed, cadence, heart rate, distance, altitude, calories burned, total elevation gain and loss, along with base maps, and a feature that allows you to ride against yourself on a previous course and a whole lot more.

The Edge 305 is pretty reasonable at about $300.

You can find more info at www.garmin.com

Happy Riding.

Today we sent out an email introducing the new start/finish location for the Tour de Park City. Due to circumstances out of our control we had to move the venue from the Canyons to Coalville Utah.

This change shortens the Tour de Park City Race and Super Century Tour by about 25 miles. The new distance is about 145 miles. More importantly it eliminates a lot of the complications due in getting to and from Park City. The result is the event will be much safer and more friendly to racing and and will make the event more accessible to more cyclists.

The other great part is from Kamas to Coalville it's downhill with a tail wind making the last 20 miles fairly easy after a pretty difficult 125 miles.

The new maps and information about registration can be found on www.tourdeparkcity.com

Energy Gel Recipe

I found and am using a new energy gel recipe you can make yourself. It tastes great and works better than any gel you can buy. You can find the recipe on

http://www.originnutrition.com/2009/07/energy-gel-athletes/

You can add additional ingredients to adjust the taste to your preference.
